CMDITR postdoc Denise Bale presents at UW's inaugural Leadership Lunch Gen2
March 26, 2010
For several years, CMDITR sponsored a Leadership Lunch series on its University of Washington, University of Arizona and Georgia Tech campuses. These lunches were aimed at graduate students and postdocs to offer them a chance to meet women and underrepresented minority professionals from academia and industry to learn about career tracks. Now, UW postdoc Denise Bale, along with UW CMDITR program coordinator April Wilkinson, have begun the second generation Leadership Lunch series--featuring UW graduate students and postdocs presenting to area community college students. The first luncheon was held March 4, 2010, with nanotechnology students from North Seattle Community College attending. Following the lunch, the community college students toured the UW campus and learned about transfer options to UW.
Denise Bale, a community college graduate herself, commented, "I really enjoyed talking with the local community college students about opportunities in science," adding, "the leadership lunch was very rewarding in that I was able to share my experiences, which will hopefully be useful for the students to help them achieve their dreams and goals."
We'll be needing other speakers for future lunches. Any UW student or postdoc interested in presenting at a Leadership Lunch Gen2 should contact Jeanne Small at jrsmall@uw.edu.
