Eligibility
All CMDITR graduate students who are US Citizens are eligible for participation. Applicants must have completed the Responsible Conduct of Research online modules.
Expectations
Students will:
- Travel abroad for a minimum period of 7-10 weeks.
- Submit a 2-page research plan and budget proposal prior to travel.
- Submit a pre-report prior to travel, and post-report after you return.
- Maintain regular email or telephone contact with their stateside advisors during the course of the visit.
- Keep a journal to assist them with their final research paper. The journal will be a place to overview the following: new insight gain by on their project & new research ideas cross-cultural communication scientific collaboration career paths the effect of this experience for their professional development
- Fulfill the obligations outlined in your proposal and specified by NSF.
How to Apply
Students need to prepare a 2 page research proposal and send it to Olanda Bryant (see contact information at bottom of page). Advisors and students should also prepare a budget proposal ASAP, discussing with the international partner the local support to determine total expenses. It should include an estimated cost of the following items:
- Language Training (supplies)
- Transportation cost (including airfare)
- Cultural activities
- Housing (subsistence)
- Living Cost (subsistence)
- Budget justification
- The total amount for your one time advance stipend
- We can directly purchase flight ticket
- We can directly deposit your checks into your Oscar account if you are a GaTech student
- If you are a non-GaTech student we may FedEx your check to you prior to your departure
- Each participant must complete a pre-report prior to travel. The report can be submitted online at http://www.nbtc.cornell.edu/stc-irep/reporting/ (Login information will be issued by the Program Coordinator after acceptance).
- You must also submit a report after returning back to your home insitution
- We also encourage the US advisors and students to speak with the international partner/group in order to participate to the cultural activities in loco. This can include language courses in the foreign country, theater, opera, ballet, monuments and art galleries visit. Some reimbursement will be possible and it will be added to the expenses for language courses. (Max. $300).
Additional Information:
The stipend check will not include the cost for the airfare. Your ticket will be purchased by the IREP Program Coordinator. We will not be responsible for any additional charges to your flight, due to changes, overage, etc.
You are responsible for your spending and receipt submission will not be required after the completion of your travel. However, if you have to pay for your housing please provide us with a copy of your lease (this can be done after your return).
You are expected to fulfill the obligations outlined in your proposal and specified by NSF. Please be mindful of your use with theses funds. The requested stipend will be for your participation with the IREP program. Therefore, it is pertinent that your funds are used as outlined in your proposed budget.
